Hot Pants and Record Bars

Step back into 1971 and wander the streets of Albury, New South Wales, where music drifted from record stores and fashion was bold, colourful, and carefree.

Hot Pants and Record Bars is inspired by my mother during her time working at Mid-States Radio, a record bar located in the Pivot Arcade on Dean Street. It captures a moment in Australian history when vinyl records filled the shelves, hot pants were the height of fashion, and weekends revolved around music, friendships, and discovering the latest releases.

Through vibrant colour and expressive detail, this artwork celebrates nostalgia, youth and the memories that connect generations. It is both a personal tribute and a snapshot of a bygone era that many Australians will remember fondly.

Hot Pants and Record Bars invites viewers to revisit a time when life seemed a little simpler, music was everything, and every record told a story.
